RenalWorks Pte Ltd, a software provider for hemodialysis clinics, has collaborated with Andersen to develop a platform called RenalGenie. This new digital solution aims to optimize workflows and administrative tasks for dialysis facilities struggling to manage rising patient caseloads.

With end-stage renal disease (ESRD) rates climbing sharply in Southeast Asia—annual growth exceeds 10% in some countries—hospitals and clinics are overwhelmed trying to accommodate the growing treatment needs. Many facilities still rely on paper records, increasing the likelihood of data loss and human error, consequently jeopardizing patient safety.

RenalWorks sought to update its existing health IT system used in Malaysian healthcare facilities. However, issues such as software limitations, suboptimal usability, and a lack of scalability highlighted the need for a complete platform overhaul. Collaborating with Andersen’s team, RenalWorks aimed to create a white-label, cloud-based SaaS solution, providing enhanced clinical and administrative functionalities for streamlined dialysis operations and billing. The company’s goal is to create a platform with independent modules that customers can configure according to their needs, including EHR, billing modules, inventory, and integrations with dialysis scales.

Currently, the new RenalGenie platform offers the following features:

●      Configurable access permissions

●      Scheduling for tests and injections

●      Tracking treatment plans

●      Notifications for procedures and updates

●      Easy system configuration across clinic networks

With RenalWorks’ small in-house team unable to handle all software demands alone, Andersen’s specialists brought critical healthcare IT experience in business analysis, product and UX/UI design, development, testing, and regulatory compliance. Andersen guided RenalWorks through complex certification audits and assisted the customer in obtaining ISO 9001 to validate the platform’s reliability. 

Despite challenges such as meticulous requirements gathering across specialized clinical settings and aligning distributed teams, close collaboration and Andersen’s healthcare expertise facilitated success. The system addresses real-world pain points and has enhanced usability. The tech stack, including Java, React, and AWS, balances innovation with cost-efficiency, security, and scalability.

RenalGenie is currently used in several clinics. RenalWorks plans to make the product available in over 200 dialysis centers across Southeast Asia by 2025. The company aims to reach the Philippines, and Indonesia next.

As adoption grows, continuous improvements in quality, features, and offline support aim to solidify trust and usefulness.
